A tough day at the office for nearly all our Men’s Senior teams

A tough day at the office for nearly all our Men’s Senior teams

Jonathan Taylor17 May - 16:08

More player availability needed please; half-centuries from Latham, Frazer, Ruxton and Stobbs; our Women’s 1s canter home again

Availability was low last week. We had to concede the fixture for the 7s, and five of our remaining six teams lost their matches. Player availability is the lifeblood of the club so we urge all Senior players to please make themselves available as much as possible in the coming weeks.

We also need volunteers to put themselves forward to help with scoring for the second team. Full training will be provided. Thank you.

On Saturday the 1st team suffered a rare League defeat, going down to Bishop’s Stortford by 6 wickets. Skipper Jimmy Latham and Ben Frazer struck half-centuries:
Harpenden: 262-9 off 50 overs (J Latham 64, Frazer 58, Usman Malik 38)
Bishop’s Stortford: 263-4 off 42.4 overs (Calladine 2-53)

On Sunday, the 1st team lost their re-scheduled Readers T20 final against Potters Bar by 8 wickets:
Harpenden: 140-6 off 20 overs (Tashkoff 48, Frazer 33)
Potters Bar: 143-2 off 17.3 overs

In the T20 Cup, the Women’s 1st team beat Broxbourne by 10 wickets. Lizzie Ruxton and Hannah Stobbs both posted unbeaten half-centuries:
Broxbourne: 115-4 off 20 overs (Isla Cole 2-9, Emelia Murray 2-15)
Harpenden: 118-0 off 14.4 overs (Ruxton 52 not out, Stobbs 52 not out)

The 2nd team earned a tightly contested victory over Old Elizabethans by 3 wickets courtesy of a fine all-round display from the evergreen Mike Howard:
Old Elizabethans: 138 all out off 38.1 overs (M Howard 3-23)
Harpenden: 142-7 off 38.2 overs (M Howard 52, T Bell 19 not out)

The 3rd team couldn’t quite squeeze past Watford Town 2s, eventually losing a low-scoring game by just 24 runs. Rich Barcock grabbed himself an excellent 4-fer and young Tom Harvey chipped in with another 3 wickets:
Watford Town: 148 all out off 39 overs (R Barcock 4-14, Harvey 3-37)
Harpenden: 124 all out off 38.3 overs (Bradley 35)

In the T20 Plate, the Women’s 3rd team lost to Redbourn by 41 runs:
Harpenden: 107-7 off 20 overs (Net Score 272)
Redbourn: 133-4 off 20 overs (Net Score 313)

The 4th team found themselves inserted on a sticky wicket at Ickleford 2s and, despite a defiant knock from debutant Pete Head, slid to a low total that proved impossible to defend, going down by 9 wickets:
Harpenden: 79 all out off 18.5 overs (Head 40)
Ickleford: 80-1 off 15.5 overs

The 5th team deserve great credit for pushing Offley & Stopsley all the way in a low-scoring affair. Young Joss Abbott-Chambers played a fantastic innings and Harry Field took 3 wickets but the team lost narrowly in the penultimate over by just 2 wickets:
Harpenden: 134-9 off 40 overs (Abbott-Chambers 41)
Offley & Stopsley: 135-8 off 39 overs (Field 3-28)

The 6th team lost to Studham by 9 wickets:
Harpenden: 39 all out off 21 overs
Studham: 40-1 off 8 overs

The 7th team had to concede their fixture against Hatch End 2s.
