 January Update

It would be optimistic of me to extend a warm welcome to this month’s update as I watch the rain hammer down as I write this update. However, the daylight is slowly but surely returning, and the cricket season approaches. I’m mentioning lots of requests for help today, but before I get to them, I want to tell you a little bit about our overseas player, who will be joining us in good time for the season.

New Zealander Chris Swanson, 25, is a powerful top order batter and handy medium pacer, who is a player/coach at Cambridge, his club side in New Zealand. He’s won numerous honours for his performances in NZ, with an obvious ability to score ‘big’ hundreds. We look forward to welcoming him to Harpenden, and I know our new first team captain James Latham is excited about what he will bring to our team.

WHERE WE NEED HELP

You’ll all be aware that lots goes on behind the scenes to keep the Cricket Club show on the road. We need help in lots of areas:

BAR STAFF

The club is looking for bar staff for a range of shifts during the 2023 cricket season. The club pays competitive rates dependent upon age and experience. If you, or someone you know, could be interested, please contact our Treasurer, David Washington, treasurer@harpendencc.co.uk

JUNIOR COACHES

With increasing numbers signing up for junior cricket the club requires more coaches. If you have experience, or would just like to get involved as a helper, could you please contact our Director of Junior Cricket, Scott Galloway, harpendenccjuniors@gmail.com

HEAVY ROLLER

Now, all sorts of childish thoughts came into my mind as I prepared to write this section. We’re looking for volunteers to sit on a heavy roller to help prepare the new pitches we are managing in Rothamsted Park. Obviously this would be under supervision of the ground staff, but it would allow them to get on with other jobs as you flatten out the pitches.

No previous experience needed, other than an ability to drive in straight lines and stay awake!

Again, please email David Washington,  treasurer@harpendencc.co.uk, to register your interest!

AND FINALLY – DO YOU NEED A NEW CRICKET HELMET?

Helmets are an essential part of any player’s armour, so why not take this opportunity to order a good looking one too, adorned with our Harpenden Cricket Club logo? Our friends at Cricket Direct are helping us again this year to order from both Masuri and Shrey Helmets so there is plenty of choice. The helmets are available in Junior and Senior Sizes and all the information that you need to order one is contained within the link that follows.

You need to complete the form  by 22nd January to secure your order. Then payment will be needed by Sunday 5th Feb.

If you have any questions please send Nick Reeves a WhatsApp message on 07908775426 or email him - nick.ed.reeves@gmail.com
