Half-centuries for Batchelor, Sivarajah, Killen, Behl, Skinner, Buckley and Cornforth (that sounds like an amazing firm of solicitors!); a 5-fer for Dugmore and 4-fers for Tashkoff and Karunaratne junior
Our brilliant 1st team went top of the Premiership with a bum-squeaking 2-wicket victory over West Herts. Jesse Tashkoff and Ben Frazer bowled 40 overs and took 7 wickets between them, before a half-century from Olly Batchelor and plenty of important contributions elsewhere took the boys home, narrowly:
West Herts: 218 all out off 57 overs (Tashkoff 4-65, Frazer 3-65)
Harpenden: 222-8 off 49.2 overs (Batchelor 50, Gosling 39)
The 2nd team are now second in Division 2A following a 94-run demolition of Knebworth Park. We recovered from 2-3 and 51-6 to post a defendable total, courtesy of a half-century from Ash Sivarajah and vital runs from Jack Doyle. Ash and Tom Beasley then grabbed 3 wickets apiece as the oppo were skittled for 100:
Harpenden: 194-8 off 50 overs (Sivarajah 67, Doyle 37 not out)
Knebworth Park: 100 all out off 30.3 overs (Sivarajah 3-15, Beasley 3-27)
The 3rd team came agonisingly close to chasing down 200 against Letchworth Garden City 2s but fell just 18 runs short. Jamie Karunaratne grabbed a 4-fer, Tom Atkinson bagged 3, and skipper Jack Killen’s undefeated 81, ably supported by young Benji Smith, nearly took us all the way:
Letchworth Garden City: 200 all out off 49.5 overs (J Karunaratne 4-44, Atkinson 3-19)
Harpenden: 182 all out off 43.3 overs (Killen 81 not out, B Smith 26)
The 4th team dispatched Watford Town 3s with a 6-wicket victory at ‘The G’. Matt Dugmore claimed a fantastic 5-fer and Tom Harvey picked up 3 wickets of his own. The relentless Anuj Behl struck yet another half-century: his unbroken partnership with Pete Head settled matters conclusively:
Watford Town: 140 all out off 36.3 overs (Dugmore 5-33, Harvey 3-24)
Harpenden: 142-4 off 28.1 overs (Behl 58 not out, Head 35 not out)
The 5th team leaked a few too many runs against Northwood Town 3s and found themselves chasing more than was ideal. Greg Mitchell and Michael Allan took 5 wickets between them. Our reply fell just 21 runs short with Harry Edward and Chris Karunaratne batting really well down the order:
Northwood Town: 183-6 off 40 overs (Mitchell 3-28, Allan 2-31)
Harpenden: 162-9 off 40 overs (Edward 38 not out, C Karunaratne 33)
The 6th team recorded a superb 4-wicket win over Leverstock Green 4s. Joe Skinner and Tom Buckley both struck vital half-centuries:
Leverstock Green: 178-6 off 40 overs (Kapil Singhal 2-24)
Harpenden: 181-6 off 39 overs (Skinner 57, Buckley 51)
The 7th team did themselves proud as they very nearly chased down an imposing total posted by Redbourn 5s. Arthur Cornforth scored a half-century (to go with his brace of wickets), and Edmund Rogerson 40, but we fell just 7 runs short. Well done for a tremendous effort:
Redbourn: 216-5 off 40 overs (K McGrandle 2-40, Cornforth 2-41)
Harpenden: 209 all out off 39.5 overs (Cornforth 58, E Rogerson 40)
