Centuries from Batchelor and Swanson; a 5-fer from Tom Harvey; our Women’s 1st and 3rd teams win

The Senior Men’s League season kicked off on Saturday, and two of our Women’s teams were in T20 action on Sunday.

The 1st team piled on more than 350 runs against Old Owens in a resounding victory by 202 runs. Olly Batchelor and Chris Swanson both scored centuries and built a mammoth fourth-wicket stand of 225 runs; they each hit seventeen 4s and two sixes in the process. Amongst the bowlers, there were two wickets apiece for Ben Frazer, Alex Gosling and Sam Calladine:

Old Owens: 160 all out off 30.1 overs

In the T20 Cup, the Women’s 1st team beat St Albans by 8 wickets. Amira Mackney and Grace Betteridge each took three wickets and Millie Dyer scored a half-century:

The 2nd team got their season off to a great start with a 52-run win over Stevenage. Gus Laws-Mather and Ollie Tuck scored half-centuries whilst Kavin Vidhya and Guy Watts each claimed three wickets:

Ickwell: 122-5 off 20 overs (Net Score 297)
Harpenden: 127-6 off 20 overs (Net Score 297)

The 4th team enjoyed their first game in Division 7 with a thumping 8-wicket win over Dunstable Town 3s. Young Tom Harvey took a 5-fer and Anuj Behl picked up where he left off last season with yet another half-century:
Dunstable Town: 172-8 off 40 overs (Harvey 5-39, Hughes 2-40)
Harpenden: 176-2 off 28.2 overs (Behl 50, Marven 41)

The 5th team couldn’t quite get the job done against Chipperfield Clarendon 2s, going down by just 4 wickets. Bolstered by recently installed metal in both knees, skipper James Bell took 4 wickets and young Jude Jackson bowled very nicely for his two scalps:

Chipperfield Clarendon: 160-6 off 33 overs (James Bell 4-41, Jackson 2-16)

The 6th team also fell just short of victory, eventually succumbing by 2 wickets to Abbots Langley 4s:

Abbots Langley: 101-8 off 31.4 overs

The 7th team couldn’t get sufficient runs on the board, losing to Pinner 4s by 6 wickets:
