Seven HCC League teams take to the field for the very first time

The 1st team got their title defence off to a fantastic start, overcoming by Flitwick by the enormous margin of 250 runs on The Common. The batting line-up posted a barely believable total of 466-7 off 50 overs with a century from Andrew Neal, 90s from skipper Jimmy Latham and Usman Malik, and a half-century from Scott Galloway. We are still verifying just how many records may have been broken in the process. Andrew Neal then took three wickets with the ball, with League debutant Liam Dudding and Ben Frazer grabbing two wickets apiece:
Harpenden: 466-7 off 50 overs (Neal 115; Usman Malik 96, J Latham 93, Galloway 60)
Flitwick: 216 all out off 46.1 overs (Neal 3-29, Dudding 2-17, Frazer 2-44)

The 2nd team found themselves on the wrong end of the result away at Sawbridgeworth, going down by 235 runs:
Sawbridgewoth: 362-3 off 50 overs
Harpenden: 127 all out off 34.5 overs

The 3rd team begun their campaign with a 4-wicket victory over Hatfield and Crusaders. Gareth Taylor and Tony Hooper each took four wickets and the former also contributed an unbeaten 27 to get us over the line:
Hatfield and Crusaders: 126 all out off 34.3 overs (G Taylor 4-14, Hooper 4-35)
Harpenden: 127-6 off 35.2 overs (G Taylor 27 not out)

The 4th team chased down an imposing total at Boxmoor 2s to also claim a 4-wicket victory. A superb 161-run opening stand between Anuj Behl and skipper Mike Hughes, along with three wickets from Belal Hussain, saw the team through to an excellent 30 points. Youngsters and 4th team debutants Toby Bell, Benji Smith and Ollie Lapwood all acquitted themselves really well:
Boxmoor: 217-5 off 40 overs (Hussain 3-16, Doyle 2-41)
Harpenden: 221-6 off 39.1 overs (Behl 97, Hughes 44)

The 5th team posted an excellent 33-run victory over Luton Town and Indians 4s. Runs from George Brindley and Ben Barcock were instrumental, as indeed was Ben’s wonderful 5-wicket haul:
Harpenden: 196-9 off 40 overs (Brindley 48, Barcock 29)
Luton Town and Indians: 163 all out off 32.5 overs (Barcock 5-28, Tom Harvey 2-22, Yaqoob Alvi 2-25)

The 6th team went down by 8 wickets to Eaton Bray 2s. There were excellent League debuts from Tom Starkey, Joe Kington and Sachin Patel:
Harpenden: 132 all out off 39 overs
Eaton Bray: 137-2 off 24 overs

The 7th team lost to Old Albanians 4s by 149 runs. Zach Honan took four wickets and Tim Rogerson scored a resolute 33:
Old Albanians: 219-6 off 40 overs (Honan 4-45)
Harpenden: 70 all out off 21.1 overs (T Rogerson 33)

Our Women’s 2nd team lost by 10 wickets to Luton Women’s and Girls:
Harpenden: 57 all out off 16.2 overs
Luton Women’s and Girls: 58-0 off 7 overs
