Thrilling, nail-biting drama down on The Common: who needs Netflix?

Majestic centuries from Olly Batchelor and Michael Voigt are the highlights of the weekend

The 1st team completed a thrilling run chase against Broxbourne to record a rather nail-biting 1- wicket victory with just two deliveries remaining in the match. Jesse Tashkoff and Chris Swanson bagged three wickets apiece before Olly Batchelor served up another batting masterclass with an unbeaten century, ably supported by Chris Swanson:
Broxbourne: 287-8 off 50 overs (Tashkoff 3-40, Swanson 3-47)
Harpenden: 288-9 off 49.4 overs (Batchelor 118 not out, Swanson 45)

The Women’s 1st team beat Bishop’s Stortford 2s by 6 wickets. Captain Lizzie Ruxton’s innings was instrumental in the run chase:
Bishop’s Stortford: 99-4 off 20 overs (Tamsin Botha 2-19)
Harpenden: 100-4 off 11.1 overs (Lizzie Ruxton 40, Jessica Hendricks 28)

The 2nd team put a W in the column with a 4-wicket defeat of West Herts 2s. Jack Doyle and Kavin Vidhya were at it again with the ball before half-centuries from Mike Howard and Sam Calladine (who put on 87 for the seventh wicket) saw us over the line:
West Herts: 199 all out off 47.4 overs (Doyle 3-23, Vidhya 3-39)
Harpenden: 203-6 off 40.3 overs (Calladine 55 not out, M Howard 53 not out, D Bradley 40)

The Women’s 2nd team won their friendly against Hitchin 2s. Maya Balmforth scored an unbeaten half-century:
Harpenden: 166-4 off 25 overs (Maya Balmforth 60 not out)
Hitchin: 122 all out off 25 overs

The 3rd team very nearly got the job done against Mill Hill Village, going down by just 2 wickets. There were excellent all-round performances from Gareth Taylor and young Tom Harvey:
Harpenden: 191 all out off 38.1 overs (G Taylor 44, Whiteley 35, Harvey 31)
Mill Hill Village: 192-8 off 45.4 overs (G Taylor 4-16, Bissett 2-34, Harvey 2-47)

Batting first, the 4th team posted an imposing total against Redbourn 3s courtesy of a majestic century from Michael Voigt [pictured] and a half-century from Ollie Jones. The pair put on 156 runs for the third wicket. Three run outs, and two wickets each from Mike Hughes and skipper Belal Hussain, saw us over the line by 36 runs:
Harpenden: 244-6 off 40 overs (Voigt 121, Jones 70)
Redbourn: 208 all out off 39.3 overs (Hughes 2-20, Hussain 2-42)

The 5th team pushed Leverstock Green 3s all the way but ended up losing by just 3 wickets. Rich Bailey top-scored with the bat and Nick Abbott struck three times with the ball:
Harpenden 160-7 off 40 overs (Bailey 32)
Leverstock Green: 164-7 off 33.4 overs (Abbott 3-40, Joseph Kington 2-15)

The 6th team struggled to defend a low total, succumbing to Chipperfield Clarendon 3s by 5 wickets. There was a half-century and a fine all-round performance from Finley Sellers:
Harpenden: 114 all out off 31.5 overs (F Sellers 61)
Chipperfield Clarendon: 116-5 off 23.1 overs (F Sellers 2-13)

The 7th team lost to Kings Langley 4s by 58 runs but in the process Josh Hill grabbed another 3 wickets, and Dipen Patel took 2 of his own and posted a half-century:
Kings Langley: 182 all out off 34.5 overs (Hill 3-41, Patel 2-25)
Harpenden: 124 all out off 34.4 overs (Patel 60)

Further reading
