Women's cricket

Harpenden Cricket Club is looking to develop the Women’s section

We started off as a handful of mums who enjoyed watching our kids playing cricket, but actually fancied a go ourselves. None of us had much, if any, experience of playing cricket at school. Some of us had played some beach cricket; others had never bowled before. We decided to start meeting on a Sunday morning after our girls finished their own training and see where it took us. The beautiful sunshine, the smell of freshly-cut grass and the opportunity to take out some frustration with a bat and ball were an irresistible combination. We found ourselves coming back week after week.

After a while, a couple of coaches from the club observed our training sessions and said they would be happy to train us up. Gradually, we’ve gained some other players, some with more experience and some total beginners and we’ve welcomed them all with open arms. We’ve continued meeting throughout the winter for indoor sessions, which has helped us build a sense of camaraderie, laughter and fun, as well as improving our fitness and cricket skills.

We currently meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7-8pm at Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden. With excellent coaching, music playing and a supportive, welcoming atmosphere, we are building our confidence levels and forming a team. If you’re interested in letting off some steam and being part of the fun, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Lucy on: harpendenccwomen@gmail.com or 07585 806 559 to book your three free sessions and see where it might take you.
