Women's Senior teams: 2025 review

Jonathan Taylor10 Sep - 08:20

Let's celebrate the growing success of HCC's Women's section

Following the season review for the Men’s section, now it’s the turn of the Women who have had an equally rewarding summer of cricket.

Our fabulous 1st team, lead by Lizzie Ruxton, won the inaugural Premiership title in the new Herts Women’s League, making it a unique double for the Club in winning both Herts Premier titles. Our talented team won 9 out of 10 League games to secure the title by 26 points ahead of Broxbourne. In fact our only loss, against Broxbourne, was the team’s first loss in the league over the last three seasons.

The leading run-scorers were Lizzie Ruxton (320 @ 53.33), Millie Dyer (265 @ 33.13) and Charlotte Banks (177 @ 59.00) - all of whom were in the top six run-scorers in the League, with Lizzie top. On the bowling front, leading wicket-takers were 14-year-old Harriet Peel (9 @ 10.44) and 16-year-old Izzy Bates (8 @ 12.38). The future is bright!

Our 2nd team, lead by Lucy Barrow, found the League tougher going but continue to improve with every game. Leading run-scorer was Jo Karunaratne (123 @ 15.38) and the leading wicket-taker was Evelyn Newton (4 @ 15.00). The highlight of the season was reaching the Final of the 100 Plate competition where we finished runners up to Luton Women & Girls, a team that remained unbeaten all season in the Championship division.

Onto Softball where the team, lead by Georgia Vallat, competed in a league for the first time and finished comfortably in mid-table - winning three and losing three. Top run-scorers were mother-and-daughter duo, Kate and Grace Smith, closely followed by Maya Barrow. Georgia Vallat finished as the leading wicket-taker.

Overall, another highly successful season as we continue to grow the women’s section.
