After a break of almost a month since the last fixture, a rusty Titans team eked out a victory against a solid Wheathampstead side.
After winning the toss and batting first, the openers found it hard going against some extremely disciplined bowling. Henry Barcock holed out in the second over and after that we found boundaries hard to come by but Sach Jallport and Albie Stokhuysen pushed the singles and twos to keep the scoring rate ticking along at 4’s. At the half way stage we were looking at an under par 49 runs. The second ten overs was a different story as some of their weaker bowlers were introduced and we started to cash in. George Margo smashed a rapid 11 ball 30 rtno and supported by Ted Gurney & Aaron Case we closed out our innings on 132/4. Probably 15 runs shy of where we should have been but a defendable total none the less.
The fielding started well but we became sloppy when trying to force a wicket with too much short stuff, dropped catches and misfields all being punished. Fortunately the "Retired out at 30” rule combined with some great fielding from Harry Smith to run out a dangerous batter came to our rescue and the boys wrested back control with Henry, Albie, George Roberts and Joe Kington returning to keep things tight and reduce Wheaties to 120/4 at the close. Nail biting stuff but a win when not at our best shows these boys are a real unit.
Big rivals Redboun away on Sunday will go a long way in deciding the group winners with Titans in the box seat.
